skywalk

This adventure kicks off at Villa Lapas Reserve and Wild Life Sanctuary, one of most biodiverse regions of the country. A 4 km. trail winds and meanders through this 400-acre private reserve, and over five bridges, suspended 70 feet above the forest floor.  These bridges offer a perfect birds-eye-view of the canopy’s flora and fauna, while leaving the creatures of the forest virtually undisturbed. Enjoy lunch and a break for souvenir shopping after your sky walk, then step into a boat for a two-hour boat ride along the Guacalillo river canals, a 20 minute bus ride from Villa Lapas. As you glide through the water, you’ll spot howler monkeys, bright scarlet macaws and other species of tropical birds among the lush Pacific Coast mangroves.

Unique views of this virgin tropical rainforest area  delight and amaze as you navigate the rapids and maneuver the twists and turns of the river. Halfway through our journey, we will stop to enjoy a delicious river-side lunch, and finish up the trip at Siquirres, at our own private Exploration Center, where you can take a shower, change and enjoy the gardens and terrace.

poas volcano

The active Poas Volcano features on the “must see” lists of tourists and locals alike, and has been described as Costa Rica’s coolest volcano experience.  At the bottom of one of its two enormous prehistoric-looking main craters is a 900 ft. deep lagoon spewing boiling, sulfurous gases. The other, named Botos Lagoon, contains cold rain water, connecting to the Rio Angel, and to the larger Rio Sarapiqui.    On this adventure in the Poas Volcano National Park, you witness volcanic activity close and firsthand, and experience four distinctly different natural habitats.  Such variety in such a relatively small area of land is just another example of Costa Rica’s incredible biodiversity. You are welcome to explore the many short trails that wind around the craters and into the surrounding forest.

What you need:

  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • A light rain jacket or warm sweater (Volcano is at an altitude of 2,708 m. and temperatures may be cooler)
  • Cap
