Passionate about empowering others, she helps clients cultivate balance, strength, and self-awareness through movement, mindfulness, and holistic practices.

Barbara Konicki is a passionate yoga and fitness teacher dedicated to helping others find strength and peace. She is also the Program Coordinator for the South Windsor Recreation Center. Barbara is an energetic and dedicated teacher, invested in inspiring and motivating each person to realize their potential. She is also an avid hiker and lover of the outdoors.

This powerful yoga retreat is led by three facilitators: Kelly Concannon, Greg Nardi and Meg McCarver. Together, we will co-create a space in paradise with us to heal and experience our unstruck heart, the Anahata. Morning Sessions (Self-Love)

The day begins with a silent meditation followed by a morning salute to the sun through a yoga practice. The yoga practice will be followed by a pranayama practice. These sessions are designed to cultivate self-awareness, mindfulness, and a deeper appreciation for your body. Morning sessions will include an exploration of topics through journaling, and will encourage participants to reflect on their relationships to self-care in order to enhance self awareness and transformation.

Afternoon Sessions (Collective Love)

Afternoons are dedicated to fostering connection with others. Activities include individual or partner yoga, group discussions on key yogic texts. Spiritual texts are intended to assist in building conscious relationships. These sessions emphasize the idea that collective well-being starts with a practical understanding of yogic philosophy in action. Participants are encouraged to share individually and collectively through group participation and journaling.

Social Outreach (Universal Love)

This is a key component of the retreat. Participants will spend time working with local non-profit organizations.

Evening Activities: Universal Love (Love Integration)

Evenings are for restoration and community building. Evenings will incorporate gentle restorative yoga, kirtan (devotional chanting), simply stargazing, energy healing circles, and ceremony.

Energize Your Massage Practice at Pura Vida in Costa Rica
Join us at Pura Vida Retreat and Spa in Alajuela, Costa Rica from May 2-9, 2026 for an immersive massage therapy retreat designed to enhance your skills and knowledge. This exceptional massage education vacation experience combines expert instruction in the class path that you select, hands-on practice, and relaxation in a stunning setting.

Course Offerings

Study with some of our top instructors as you enhance your massage therapy expertise with our comprehensive curriculum. Choose from a variety of programs tailored to your professional goals:

• Medical Massage Practitioner Program: Master the art and science of medical massage. This is one of our most popular course offerings and includes the following clases: Day of the Back, Lower Extremity, Day of the Neck and Upper Extremity. Plus, as a bonus, you will receive the online Insurance Billing Home Study course. This in-depth program teaches you how to build a medical massage practice and enhance your existing skills to take clients out of pain.
• Manual Lymphatic Drainage Series: This important series includes both Fundamentals of Lymphatic Drainage and Advanced Lymphatic Drainage. You will gain a deep understanding of the lymphatic drainage system and master techniques to treat the entire body. You will be able to incorporate this skill into your regular massage routine as well as treat pre- and post-surgical clients.
• Myofascial Release Workshop: This two-part series will equip massage therapists with advanced training to effectively address fascial restrictions and alleviate chronic pain. Learn to adapt treatments for various client conditions.

Costa Rica Experience

The Pura Vida Retreat and Spa is a paradise, tucked away on the top of a mountain in Alajuela, Costa Rica. This is a wonderful retreat with fantastic energy. You will be able to select between several guest room accommodations to stay in. (See detailed accommodation descriptions below.)

Our classes take place at Pura Vida Retreat. Massage tables and sheets are provided. You don’t have to worry about bringing your own. The scenic views are unforgettable. You may get lost in the splendor of Costa Rica on your way to class.

Beyond the classroom, you may wish to partake in exceptional spa treatments at the Wellness Centre. You can also wander around and hide away on the property at one of the many relaxation areas. Unwind with daily yoga, or simply relax by the pool or jacuzzi. You deserve this vacation!

We highly recommend taking advantage of some of the Eco-Adventure opportunities offered at Pura Vida. You can immerse yourself in the wonders of Costa Rica. TRAVEL LOGISTICS:

Air: Arrive/Depart San Jose (SJO) Airport. Pura Vida will arrange for your transportation to and from the San Jose Airport.

Arrival: Please plan to arrive at SJO by 5:00 PM on Sunday, May 17th, 2026, to ensure comfortable transportation to the retreat center and arrival in time for our welcome dinner.

Departure: You can schedule your departure for Friday, May 22nd, 2026.

REGISTRATION & CANCELLATION POLICY:

The $800 deposit is non-refundable and secures your spot. The remaining balance is due 60 days prior to the beginning of the retreat (March 18, 2026). If you sign up within 60 days of the retreat date, full payment is due at the time of reserving your spot.

NO REFUNDS for canceling within 30 days of the retreat.

If you sign up with a roommate and someone in the party cancels, roommate matching may be available, or prices will be adjusted to reflect single occupancy rates.

My Story
Hi! I’m Theresa Ruggles! I’ve been teaching movement classes since 2011. I’m certified in Pilates, TRX, Barre, and Yoga. My Comprehensive Pilates certification is through Balanced Body, but I also have other certifications through CAYA New York and Barre Intensity. As an E-RYT 500 Yoga Alliance instructor, I have a multitude of yoga certifications including vinyasa, children’s, teen, trauma-informed, restorative, and chair yoga. It is an easy trip …. Just book your flight into San Jose, Costa Rica (SJO Airport Code). You also need to fill out the Pura Vida Shuttle Form. Please put Annette Franks as the group leader.

A Pura Vida Retreat & Spa driver will be waiting for you outside. Claim your bag(s), proceed through customs, and exit the airport terminal to the outside International Arrivals corridor. The shuttle driver will be waiting for you in the roped off line on the left, in front of the Malinche Restaurant (located on the right) holding a sign reading “Pura Vida Retreat & Spa”. Your name or Annette Franks Group will be displayed. Please do not accept help from anyone who is not properly identified as Pura Vida Staff or holding a sign with your name/group’s name on it.

Your Pura Vida SHUTTLE rides have been PREPAID as part of your retreat package and so all you need to do is tip the driver (if you choose) and make sure we have your Arrival Airline, Flight #, Date and Arrival Time at least three weeks ahead by filling out the Pura Vida SHUTTLE FORM.

They make our transportation easy for us if you fill out the Pura Vida SHUTTLE FORM The Pura Vida shuttle will only pick-up at SJO Airport and only at the pre-arranged times. The Driver takes you directly to Pura Vida Retreat & Spa…a 20-25 Minute trip from the airport.

The Driver will take you and your bags directly to the Pura Vida & Retreat & Spa Check In Center at the Front Desk for your check-in. The Front Desk will ask you for your passport number and credit card information. Your ‘Women’s Health’ Retreat has been pre-paid in full prior to your arrival, however, all your “extras” during your stay will be billed to your room under your individual name.

Almost everything “extra” you choose to do at the Spa (like spa treatments, excursions and drinks at the raw juice and smoothie bar etc) will be added to your room bill and you will settle up at the end of your stay. You rarely need to carry any money around with you at the spa. American Money is accepted almost everywhere in Costa Rica. We recommend bringing extra $5 and $10 and $20 U.S. bills for tipping and for outside purchases. Small bills are easier for merchants.

All the rooms have Safes in them for you to keep your passports and money if you choose.

You don’t need a car…the spa has great excursions you can sign up for and do with Tour Guides directly from the retreat center.

You sign up for the Excursions and Spa Treatments AFTER you arrive at Pura Vida.

The Excursions are fun, easy ways to experience pieces of Costa Rica…. Pura VidaCli does the work and planning…….we enjoy the experiences. All Excursions and Spa Treatments will be billed to your room number, under your individual name.

The front desk at Pura Vida onsite will also help you reserve a car and driver if you want to go touring on your own during your afternoon free times.

Unless you’re choosing to stay longer or come in a day early, Plan to Fly into San Jose, Costa Rica (SJO) Airport on Saturday December 5, 2026, by lunch or early afternoon if possible and then Fly out of San Jose on Saturday December 12, 2026. The “Women’s Health and Wellness Retreat” starts with a gathering BEFORE Dinner on Saturday Evening at 5:30 pm on the DINING ROOM BALCONY. The Retreat ends on Friday Evening after Dinner.

Most Participants fly into San Jose in time for lunch or early afternoon on Saturday and fly out of San Jose on Saturday Afternoon on the Departure Day. Many people find it more relaxing to get to Pura Vida Retreat & Spa in the early afternoon to relax and then stay for breakfast together without rushing in the morning to get an early flight out of San Jose. Pura Vida Spa Staff are wonderful about picking us up on time and getting us to the airport at least 2 ½ hours before our scheduled flight out. Remember your shuttle transportation both to and from the SJO Airport have been pre-paid and are part of your Retreat Package. No refunds are given if you choose to use another form of transportation to and from the airport.

PERSONAL TRAVEL NEEDS

In December, the temperature in Costa Rica is usually sunny and in the 80’s during the day and in the 60’s at night. It’s sunny, warm weather ideal for outdoor activities and wildlife viewing. We’re atop a mountain so bugs are usually fewer, and humidity is lower.

Here’s a Suggested list of Personal Needs for Costa Rica Retreat Week:

Dress comfortably and casually all week. No special clothes are needed for the Qigong and movement practices with the exception your clothes need to provide you with ease of motion for the movements. You can wear regular casual clothes all week if you choose.

Pura Vida Retreat & Spa has a very affordable laundry service we can use. Just drop your bag of laundry off any morning on your way to breakfast to the front desk and they will deliver it to your room in the afternoon (usually for less than $8 for a bag of clothes). You can pack light if you want.

• We highly recommend comfortable walking/hiking shoes and comfortable walking/hiking sandals for the entire week.

RETREAT CANCELLATION POLICY

If for any reason you need to cancel before the Final Balance Due date of November 1, 2026, you may transfer your Initial Deposit paid (minus the $500 Non-Refundable Fee) to Annette Franks’ next scheduled Women’s Health Retreat at Pura Vida Retreat & Spa which usually runs the same time the following year, OR you may also request a refund for your Initial Deposit paid minus the $500 Non-Refundable Fee.

If you cancel any time ON or AFTER November 1, 2026, you can transfer your Money Paid minus the $500 Non-Refundable Fee to our next scheduled Women’s Health Retreat at Pura Vida Retreat & Spa.
